FAQ

What is the cabin stocked with? Linens? Kitchen?

We provided the linens and bath towels for our guests. Please bring your own beach and dog towels.
The kitchen is stock with plenty of pots, pans and dishes. We recommend bringing your own spices though.
Toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags are provided.

Is there a washer and dryer for guests to use?

Unfortunately at this time we do not have a washer and dryer accessible to guests. It is definitely on our list of improvements in the future.

How close is the Green River?

The cabin is about 150 yards from the Green River. All you have to do is cross the field, Green River Cove Road and head down to the private access. You will see the cleared area to the left of the containers which will lead you down to the river.
There is also a great private beach that you access about the midpoint of the field. You will see a small little trail that leads you to it. This is private property, so if you see any tubers or other people hanging out on it, feel welcome to ask them to leave. This beach is ever moving when the river gets really high, so after a big storm it might move.
Another option is the public access/beach, which is about a 5-minute walk from the cabin. To get to the public access you will walk across the Green River Cove Road bridge and walk to the pullout right past it. Once you reach the pullout, you will see multiple paths to get down to the beach.
Both spots are suitable for young children, but we always recommend a PFD.

The Green River is dam released. How do I know the release schedule?

Click HERE to see the current release schedule. The target level of Lake Summit is 98.5 feet, so if it is above that they will release water until the reach that level. There are 2 units on the dam. 1U Full = 1 unit running at 100%. 2U Full = 2 units at 100% (river is running 200%). If it has been raining a lot lately, the river will be even higher with dam spilling over and natural flow.
Once the water is released from the dam, it takes about 4 hours to get to The Ranch. As well, once the water is shut off, it takes about 4 hours to drop at The Ranch.

What does the river level mean for fishing, tubing, and paddling?

Please remember, the higher the water, the faster the current. The river after big rains can be extremely dangerous. That being said…
We have found the best time to fish is when the river is shut off or being release at 100%, but we have definitely caught fish when the river is being released at 200%.
Don’t try to tubing, or paddle if the river is shut off or below 100% (1U FULL), it will be rocky and no fun. When the river is releasing 100% it is the best time to paddle/float down the river.

Do you allow dogs?

Yes! With a 5-acre field, direct access to trails, and great swimming spots, The Ranch is a paradise for dogs. We request a $40 cleaning fee for one dog and $70 for more than one dog. We have a large water bowl and a food bowl for your pups. We do ask that your 4 legged friends stay off the furniture and are not left alone unless crated.

Do we have access to the entire field?

Yes! The 5-acre field is yours to use during your visit. It is a great place for frisbee, dogs to run and to watch the summer fireflies. There is also a large fire pit in the field that is yours to use. You will need to bring your own firewood. Bring the s’mores for the kiddos.

How do we hike into the Green River Narrows to watch kayakers go over Gorilla?

The hike begins at Green River Cove Trailhead (right at the Ranch). Stay on Green River Cove Trail for 2.73 miles. Take a left at the Pulliam Creek/Bear Branch intersection. The Pulliam Creek Trail begins .23 miles before this intersection. roughly 0.5 miles past the Pulliam Creek/Bear Branch Intersection you will the steep trail on your left head down to the narrows (this is the same steep trail as the Pulliam Creek Trail hike). Once you get down to the river hike upriver until you see Gorilla (a 20′ waterfall). There is a large rock on river left to stand on and watch. Please remember that the rocks are slick near the river and to be very careful.

What is Walcott Bottoms?

Walcott Bottoms is a great spot for flatter gravel roads to walk, bike, and also takes you to a great swimming spot on Cove Creek. Plus it is literally right across the river. To access Walcott Bottom walk across the Green River Cove Rd bridge and turn left Wilderness Cove Campground. Follow the gravel road along the river. You will reach a parking area and a yellow gate managed by NC Wildlife. Take the gravel road for about a mile, where you will reach an intersection. If you head right/straight it will eventually take you to the bottom of Bradley Falls. If you head left, you can access a nice swimming spot, which is about .25 of a mile down the road. It is a flat shallow area with a swimming hole below it.
